Many drilling rigs have moved from diesel to utilize natural gas to fuel generators to produce the electric power needed to operate the many rig functions. Operators prefer these natural gas fueled rigs for their lower cost and emissions than diesel powered rigs.

The field gas available had too many contaminants to be economically conditioned for use as generator fuel.
The operator contracted with Edge LNG to provide LNG supply, a vaporizer capable of 20 MCF/HR of gas flow, and operations of the LNG system that was used as the fuel source for the natural gas powered rig generators. Edge LNG deployed multiple LNG trailers capable of holding 3-4 days of fuel usage so that 100% fuel reliability would be achieved even if inclement weather delayed delivery of replacement LNG.
